Carpentry Occupation Types
Carpentry is a specialized trade which utilizes the skills of shaping, cutting and installation of building materials to construct formwork, buildings, ships and bridges etc.
Carpenters have been known to work with natural products such as wood however carpenters these days use many other modern materials.
The likes of furniture building and cabinet making are now considered carpentry. You will notice that carpenters are first on the job and usually the last to leave.
Types of Carpenters
Joiner
A joiner is a carpenter that has the skills in furniture making, model building, cabinetry, instrument building and fine woodworking where detailed joints and small room for error can be made.
Cabinet installers/ trim carpenter
Cabinet installers/ trim carpenter is one who’s specialty is trim and molding .This can be window and door casings, baseboards, mantels, and all different types of ornamental work.
A cabinetmaker
A cabinetmaker is someone who does detailed and fine work. This includes making cabinets, wardrobes, storage chests, dressers and all other furniture made from wood.
A Ship's carpenter
Works on maintaining, repairing and utilizing the skills specifically needed in nautical tasks. This can include urgent work to fix and secure ships in the possibility of storms and the damage it can cause.
A Shipwright
Works on building and repairing ships that are stored on land and that made of wood.

Makes wooden vessels of conoidal form.
A Scenic Carpenter
Erects, dismantles and builds temporary sets and scenes required for films, theatre and television.
A Framer
Specialises in making the framework that is used in buildings and constructions
A Formwork Carpenter
Works with constructions made of cement including false work and shuttering.
A restoration carpenter
A professional who works in repairing historic buildings to a former condition.
A conservation carpenter
A conservation architect that utilizes experience on preserving history by keeping historic buildings from altering or breaking down.
Green carpentry
Is a professional that specialises in energy efficient, sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in the construction of projects.
